Whimsical & weird alt-couture on the urban fringe
Unique textiles and shapes are injected with a dose of creepy mystery and used to create this redressing of the interplay between fashion and art by local artists Kerri Mercer and Jennifer Gordon. An illuminated group of signature dresses worn by only the space where their wearer’s might be is accompanied by a series of strange and beautiful leather masks – one of which will be awarded to the winner of Night\Shift 2015’s Costume Contest!
It’s appropriate that this installation of costume-inspired fashions is situated in a parkette named for the area’s first button-maker, given that it aims to incorporate subtle material references to Kitchener’s heritage.
The fun part is imagining what spirits might be occupying those getups…
